Time to quill

Instead of spending the weekend lying around at the beach, I was struck by a creative urge to quill. I was listening to Pas/Cal (the best band ever) and was inspired.

I went with Edwardian script for the font with floral accents in pink.

Each flower took about 30 minutes to hand-craft: rolling the pieces, cutting, scallopping and using tweezers to curl back every single petal. A labor of love.

For those of you not in the know, quilling is the art of creating intricate shapes from rolled strips of paper.

Dating back to the 17th century when European religious orders used materials such as feather quills (hence the name) as tools for wrapping the paper strips. It took an entire day to make this piece.
